What to Expect
Nitrous oxide is administered through a small hood that goes over the nose. The patient is instructed to breath normally, but deeply, and usually within just a few minutes they will feel its relaxation effects. Nitrous oxide will not put you to sleep, but many patients are so relaxed, it is not uncommon for them to go to sleep for some of the procedure. The effects of nitrous oxide wear off very quickly, which means patients will be able to drive themselves to work or home after their appointment. These effects help our patients to relax so that the dental procedure can take place without excessive worry.
